Students (Male/ Female) with F.Sc (premedical) with at least 2nd division are eligible to apply for BS Program.

HEC Criteria describes that at least 132 credit hours should be taught to BS program of Microbiology in eight semesters. Therefore, it has been decided to adopt the same at Department of Microbiology, UoB, Quetta. The breakup of 132 credit hours, as recommended by the revised curriculum, 2006 of HEC is that Microbiology (    hours), Biochemistry (     hours), Mathematics (       hours), English (12 hours) General education requirements (      hours).
5.2.1.2 A student enrolled in BS program has to complete the requisite number of credit hours for coursework (Theory and Practical) as laid down by the HEC regulations for the degree. The main objective of BS program is to provide basic information in the field of Microbiology and motivate the students to choose a line of his/her interest for higher education / training in the field.
5.2.1.3 A research project will be assigned to each student in the 7th semester, write up and presentation of which will have to be made by the student in the 8th (Final) semester to fulfill the requirements of BS degree. Beside regular examinations (Preliminary, Mid term and Final), students will be asked to participate in group discussions, submit assignments (3-5 for each subject) and drop quizzes in each semester, for which to them credit will be given.
  5.2.2 M.Sc Program
    5.2.2.1

Students (Male/Female) with at least 2nd division in B.Sc or equivalent degree in Microbiology, Zoology, Botany, Biochemistry and organic chemistry are eligible to apply for M.Sc Program.

The M.Sc program is basically of two years (Four Semesters), based on 60 credit hours course work (Theory and Laboratory work), to full fill the requirement for the M.Sc Microbiology degree, as per regulations of HEC. However, graduates having degree other than B.Sc. in Microbiology will have to take an extra foundation semester comprising of 12 credit hours (Total Five semesters and 72 credit hours).
5.2.2.2 To each student research topic will be assigned in the 2nd semester, each student will have to submit his/ her synopsis on the topic during the 2nd semester. After conducting research on the approved topic, each student has to defend and submit his/her thesis in the final (Fourth) semester.
5.2.2.3 In 1st semester 18 credit hours with 3 compulsory credit hours (Biostatistics), in 2nd semester 15 credit hours, in the third 24 credit hours and in 4th semester 51 credit hour courses will be offered and each student, with the consent of his/ her supervisor, will choose 15 credit hours in each semester.
